Trip.com is a legit, large booking site, and it’s often the cheapest place for hotels and flights in Asia. The new-user hotel coupon and Trip Coins are real savings. The weak spot is flights: refunds follow the airline’s fare rules, and problems take longer to fix through a middleman. Book refundable, or book direct, if your plans might change.

Trip.com savings
New US accounts get a hotel coupon that applies at checkout. Trip.com’s promo page lists it through December 31, 2026. Other new-user offers for tours and transfers rotate, so check the Welcome Pack in the app.
Many of the bigger codes only work in the app, and some only in USD with a US account region. If a code fails on the website, try it in the app before giving up.
You earn coins on completed bookings and spend them on the next one. They stack with a promo code, even though two promo codes won’t stack with each other.
Find the same room cheaper on the hotel’s site or a listed platform like Booking.com or Expedia, and Trip.com refunds the gap in Trip Coins. Claims close at the free-cancellation deadline.
Keep the account and checkout currency in USD. Some codes stop working in other currencies, and paying in a foreign currency can add bank fees.

Is Trip.com legit?
Yes. Trip.com is owned by Trip.com Group, which started as Ctrip in Shanghai in 1999 and trades on Nasdaq as TCOM. The group also owns Skyscanner. It reported US$8.9 billion in net revenue for 2025.
The complaints you’ll read online are mostly about flights. Trip.com sells the ticket, but the airline sets the refund and change rules. When a flight is cancelled or rescheduled, the fix goes through both companies, so it’s slower than booking direct.
Refunds: the rate you pick decides everything
Hotels are simple. Rooms marked “Free Cancellation” refund in full before the deadline on the booking, often 24 to 48 hours before check-in. Non-refundable rates and no-shows get nothing back. Cancel in the app, not with the hotel, or the refund won’t go through.
Flights are harder. There’s no blanket 24-hour free cancellation. Some fares allow it, many charge a fee, and the fare rules on the booking page tell you which. Card refunds usually take 7 to 15 business days, and longer if the airline is slow. Trip.com’s flight “price guarantee” only means your fare won’t rise after you pay. It isn’t a price match.
Trip Coins and tiers: small, but they add up
Everyone starts at Silver. One booking gets you Gold, three more in a year get Platinum, and Diamond takes eight bookings and at least $1,000 in spend. Higher tiers earn more coins, from 20% extra at Gold to 100% extra at Diamond.
The base rate is low. A $1,000 hotel stay earns about 500 coins, roughly $5, at Silver. Coins from bookings last 18 months and coins from reviews last 6. That’s worth having if you book every year, and close to nothing on a one-off trip.
